Alken-Murray Is Now On The Internet!!!

We deeply appreciate the hard work, patience and inspiration of Patrick J. Mullin, web designer from Toronto, Canada. We have set up a wide array of useful links to scientific sites, distributors, etc. We have uploaded safety material, frequently asked questions, a few product bulletins and MSDS, a few case studies, etc. We will add more as time goes by and your editor becomes more web savvy. Mastering "frames" and "tables" and "targeting" has indeed been a challenge, but we want this site to equal the quality of our products - the BEST. Let us know what else you would like added and we will try to accommodate your wishes. We also wish to express appreciation for distributor and client feedback.

Apologies for the Lateness of this Newsletter

I know this newsletter is late, and I will try to be more prompt next month. We have been trying to upload all of the files you have requested from us as quickly as we can, which left little time for research into new items to post here.

Reminder - FAX the New York Number, please

The Virginia fax line is hardly ever available, since it also handles the internet connection and our charge card processing. If you want to fax Virginia, please call first and we will disconnect to allow your incoming fax. Thank you for your understanding.

Alken Clear-Flo® Technical Updates

We Finally Named our Cyanobacteria Control Formula

We will not say that it is the most imaginative name around, or even the best, but at least, after two years on the market, its no longer "the stuff for filamentous and slimey organisms ". We considered "CyanoTreat", but that turns out to be the trade name of a chemical biocide, then we considered "CyaTreat", but someone asked if that name had some connection to murder plans for one of our distributors whose name is "Syed", so we settled on Alken CF Supplement C. Your editor will now duck for cover.

Alken Enz-Odor® 6 - Controls Hydrogen Sulfide Odor While It Denitrifies

We have discovered that Thiobacillus denitrificans is more stable in liquid form, packaged alone, so we will offer it in the future as Alken Enz-Odor® 6, for the elimination of hydrogen sulfide in both aerobic and anaerobic water bodies. This product can also be used for denitrification in water which lacks sufficient organic carbon for other strains to perform. For an explanation of how this process works, see Evaluation of Sulfur Based Autotrophic Denitrification, by D. G. Lampe and T.C. Zhang, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln at Omaha Campus. If you have an Acrobat® Reader, you can view the entire article, not just an abstract.

Updated Product Bulletin for Alken Clear-Flo® 1200 Shrimp Farm Applications

Our clients pointed out that the dosage listed on this bulletin was confusing, so we have updated it for easier application.

Updated Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing

We have included some of our newer products in the Antibiotic Sensitivity Testing material and that data is available on our website.

Website for Harmful Algae Information

. Harmful Algae Management and Mitigation. mentions controlling the outbreaks through bioremediation, introducing beneficial bacterial species to decrease the size and frequency of blooms.

Scientific Paper in Spanish, from Brazil - E-mail us!

We would like to thank distributor Andre Nogueira, of PTA Tecnologia, for sharing with us a scientific paper that discusses the performance of Alken Clear-Flo 1000 and Alken Clear-Flo 1200 in enhancing white shrimp larvae and post-larvae growth, while allowing water changes to decrease from 100% to 30% daily. Claudia is presently translating this study into English, so that all may enjoy it.

Survey Forms On-Line

WOW - no more scrounging around in the bottom of a briefcase or your file cabinet for the right form, just go to our website directory and select "survey forms" or Print the form you want and FAX it to Claudia (516) 775-6497.

Safety Information ONLINE

Distributors: Have you ever been really close to closing a sale and the client asked for EPA, USDA and other information on safety...and you left it at home in a file? Well now you can just connect to the web and download all the documentation you should need. for safety material.

Alken Clear-Flo® Competitor Comparisons

Scientific Paper Reports that Bio-Start HB-1 and HB-2 are No Better Than No Treatment

Samocha, T.M., A.L. Lawrence, A. Horowitz and S. Horowitz. In press. Commercial bacterial supplement - its potential use in the production of marine shrimp under no water exchange. pp. xx-xxx. In: D.E. Jory (editor). Proceedings, First Latin American Shrimp Farming Congress. 6-10 October 1998. Panama, Panama. In fairness, this paper does report that the above products were quite effective for sludge remediation, as demonstrated in the laboratory, but failed totally to make any difference in pond application with live shrimp. These two products are sold together in a "twin-pack". We compared these products with Alken Clear-Flo last year in one of our newsletters, but we will be glad to supply the information to anyone who sends us an e-mail request (click on smiling envelope above).

Your editor has a copy of the above paper, courtesy of Dr. Jory, one of the editors of Aquaculture Magazine and will be glad to share it with anyone who wishes to read it. Meanwhile we are working as fast as possible to transcribe and translate the scientific paper which shows that Alken Clear-Flo® 1200 and 1000 effectively improve water quality and shrimp larvae survival.

Alken® Fuel Treatment Competitor Comparisons

BELL ADDITIVES from Florida

Dee-Zol additive for diesel fuel is dosed at 1 oz per 10 gallons, which equals 1 gal for 1280 gal and is priced at just under double that of Alken Even-Flo® 910S (in a 5 gal. pail). Of course EF 910S is usually dosed at 1 to 1000, which makes the per use cost of Dee-Zol significantly higher than Alken Even-Flo® 910S.

Bell's Cold Flow Additive is applied at the same rate as Dee-Zol and is priced at 3.5 times more than Alken® PDE 903. Since PDE 903 is applied at a rate of anywhere from 1 to 500 to 1 to 2000, the price per dose is 10 to 40 TIMES AS EXPENSIVE!!!
