Polymer vs Demulsifier
Polymers are used to clarify water, to remove impurities, including oil, by binding and flocculating the "impurity". The goal of a demulsifier is to remove a certain amount of water from oil. Alken 860 Demulsifier binds with the oil and, when heat is added, repels water. Alken 860 Demulsifier will not damage the resale value of the oil, as it is totally compatible. Oil bound by a polymer is not saleable. The other alternative we offer, that has enjoyed some success, when heat cannot be applied is Alken 872 Citrus Degreaser , which mixes with the water and repels oil, so tiny amounts of this product will sometimes help in an oil separator. Bench testing is recommended for all demulsification applications.
NSF Replaces EPA Certification of Polymers and USDA Non-Food Registration
NSF took over the EPA certification program in 1995 and has recently taken over the USDA registration program. You can find a list of Alken-Murray's USDA registered formulas on their website, under the USDA program they took over: http://www.nsf.org/

Alken Even-Flo® Technical Updates
One Ingredient Abruptly Discontinued - Affects All Even-Flo® Formulas and Others
After our in-house stock has been sold, we will not be manufacturing any more Alken Even-Flo 905, 910, 910E, 911, Alken PDE 903, Alken 935, Alken 860 Demulsifier, or Alken 981, until we can test new ingredients to replace the discontinued one. We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused. We will post again, when we are ready to market the new blends and will have samples available at that time. We believe that we can produce an improvement with this change, maintaining the superiority of our products, so please do not panic.
Experiments Being Conducted to Improve Alken Even-Flo® 910S - Diesel Treatment for On-Road Trucks
We will not be manufacturing any more EF 910S for the next 6 months, until we can verify that a new formulation may produce even better smoke suppression with a lower dose than the old formula and will fulfill all requirements of EPA registration for this formula. We will also register this Formula with EPA, including documentation of Tier 1 testing of the non-typical ingredient in this product. Since Tier 1 testing is extremely expensive, the price of the new formula will be considerably higher.
50% Discount for Warehouse Inventory of Alken Even-Flo® Formulas
Alken Even-Flo® 910E
and 910S inventory discounted, until gone. Once this small inventory is gone, we will not have more product until the new blends are available.

Strains Revision in Certain Microbial Products
To improve performance in a wider array of countries, we have replaced Bacillus thuringiensis with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in the following products: Alken Enz-Odor (original), Alken Enz-Odor H, Alken Enz-Odor 7 and Alken Nu-Bind. We have also removed Pseudomonas aeruginosa, purple sulfur from all of the products it was included in, specifically Clear-Flo 1001, 4004, 7001, Enz-Odor 4, Clear-Flo 7008, 7020, 7026, 7030 and 7036. We ran some LD50 tests on all of our Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, and only the Purple Sulfur strain had any adverse results, so we have removed it from all of our products. We are researching other strains to replace it in the future. In the meantime, the consortiums seem to work quite well without it.
Definition of the Month: FOG
FOG is the abbreviation for fats, oils and grease of a non-petroleum nature. This is distinct from TPH, which is total petroleum hydrocarbons. Our Clear-Flo 4000 line products address FOG, while CF 7002, 7008, 7026 and 7036 address TPH.
