We Apologize for the Tardy Spanish Translations of the Newsletter

Ms. Velasco has been ill for a large part of this winter. She has never adapted well to our colder climate in the winter, but she is now catching up with her newsletter translations. We will be posting them to the internet soon. Ms. Velasco has translated 3 Mexican case studies and they are posted, linked to the abstracts. In addition, Windows 95 has some known issues with the "a" drive, such that disks created in one machine may not be readable in another. Thank you Bill Gates! We appreciate your patience. If you would like a Spanish translation in a hurry, call Claudia at (516) 352-5147, and she will fax a translation to you.

AquaBio Environmental Technologies Attended California Aquaculture Trade Show

Ms. DeAna Brankovic was assisted at the California Aquaculture Trade Show in early March, by Ms. Claudia Velasco. Your editor has been told that they had a fine time and enjoyed meeting a number of people whose aquatic operations can be assisted by Alken-Murray products.

Attention Alken-Murray Distributors:

We would love to report on your trade show or lecture activities, if you just let us know. In fact, if you let us know sufficiently in advance, we will be glad to post the news so that additional people may attend it they wish to meet you.

New Link to Alken-Murray MSDS sheets at Vermont SIRI Database

Dr. Woodard has added a link to our MSDS from the popular http://www.hazard.com website. Our MSDS link is also posted at http://www.msdssearch.com. We have posted MSDS for some of our most popular products, and will be adding others as rapidly as possible.

Absolutely No Business Content - MATRIX

Your editor cannot resist sharing with the world that she won two FREE tickets to a pre-showing of the new sci-fi super-movie The Matrix! If you love science fiction, or awesome special effects, or even just good action movies, you should not miss the Matrix. Yes, my cynical friends, it does star Keanu Reeves, but the film would be a winner even if he was an unknown. So now you understand that peculiar link to The Matrix http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/ among our "Hot Links"

Alken Clear-Flo® Technical Updates

"Manufacturing Concentrate" Available for Two Products When Large Doses Are Needed

We will sell a 3x "Manufacturing Concentrate" (count 10 billion CFU per gram) of CF 7000, and a 20x "Manufacturing Concentrate" for Alken Enz-Odor® original blend (just a touch of surfactant), whenever the application is exceptionally large, or someone is reblending for private labeling.

Website Misprint

Thank you "anonymous client" for calling our attention to a misprinted application instruction in the Clear-Flo 7026 product bulletin on our website. You mix 5 lb of product with 50 gallons of water, not 5,000 gallons. The corrected CF 7026 bulletin was posted in March. If you notice anything else on the website that does not seem reasonable, please, please contact us, so that we may fix it.

Spanish Versions of Three Case Studies Posted to the Website

English and Spanish versions of three Mexican case studies, illustrated with color graphs, have been posted to our website and are linked from the Case Studies Abstracts. Ms. Velasco provided the Spanish translation for us. DEPQUI S.A. de C.V, one of our Mexican distributors, provided the data from its clients.

Hydrogen Sulfide Treatise Now Posted on our Website

Septic/Drain Survey Form Now On-Line

Your editor has created a first-draft septic/drain line survey form. http://alken-murray.hypermart.net/FormFrameSet.html Please let us know if you think it needs to be modified to answer all questions we need to consider when prescribing the most suitable formula for the client's needs.

What Is All the Fuss About Glycerol Degrading?

The enzyme lipase will separate the fatty acid chain from the glycerol. Glycerol degrades to a long fatty acid chain and then that is broken down too. The X-ray industry disposes of so much glycerol down the drain that the drains clog. With little else to eat to balance the waste, we would recommend our Alken Clear-Flo® 4004 for this application, as it contains a small amount of extra-cellular lipase, in addition to the lipase naturally produced by Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus subtilis, B. thuringiensis, etc.

Ammonia Oxidation DOES Consume Alkalinity

For each pound of ammonia oxidized to nitrate, 7.2 lbs of alkalinity is consumed. 50 ppm of alkalinity should be maintained to prevent the pH from dropping too low for nitrification to continue. Also remember that nitrification is inhibited by BOD levels above 200 ppm.

Molecular Probing Offers Improved Ability to Monitor Soil Biotreatment

The March 1999 issue of Pollution Engineering Magazine, offers an interesting and detailed article on pages 33 through 36 on the exciting new technology of fist DNA mapping the strains used in bioremediation, and then attaching a luminescent or radioactive probe to the bacteria, so that their presence and strength can be monitored during in-situ soil bioremediation. The technology described in Using Molecular Probing to Monitor Soil Bioremediation, by J.B. Phillips, M.A. Hindawi, A. Phillips, R.V. Bailey, Engineering Development Institute, will also provide data on the interaction between bacterial species and substrates that may influence the fate of the waste. Alken Clear-Flo® Competitor Comparisons

Our readers have told us that competitor comparisons are their favorite topic, so, here is one this month. We prepared an additional comparison, but that company is negotiating to private label Alken Clear-Flo, which has 5 times the count, and uses 1/13 of the dose of the product they were carrying, so they have been spared our public comparison.
