ALKEN® TREATMENT 552 is a free flowing, powder-form, catalyzed oxygen scavenger that combines chemically with dissolved oxygen in feedwater or in the boiler to inhibit the formation of oxygen-induced corrosion, including pitting. |
|
Dosage is usually 1/8 to 3/4 lb. of ALKEN® TREATMENT 52 per thousand gallons of boiler feedwater. However, dosages will vary considerably depending upon the feedwater temperature, type of boiler operation, type of heater or deaerator, air leakage into the system, etc. |
ALKEN® TREATMENT 52 is best fed continuously by chemical metering pumps into the deaerator storage section. However, the ordinary boiler treatment feeding methods such as simple shot feeders can be used with diminished effectiveness. |
ALKEN® TREATMENT 52 is normally controlled so that a residual of 30 to 60 mg/L of sodium sulfite is maintained in the boiler water. A Simple test kit should be used to monitor residual sulfite for plant control. Alken-Murray prefers CHEMetrics #K-9610 test kit, but LaMotte & Hach also offer sulfite kits for those who prefer those brands, |
ALKEN® TREATMENT 52 is packaged in lined fiber drums, holding 100 lbs. or 300 lbs. which conform to Performance Oriented Packaging Specifications. 50 lbs. can be packaged in 5 gallon plastic pails, but a minimum order of 10 pails is required. Store packaging closed, except when opened to extract product, in a cool, dry area. |
ALKEN® TREATMENT 52 is formulated in compliance
with 21 CFR 184.1139 regulations for boiler water additives used in preparation
of steam that will contact food, but was never submitted to USDA,so we advise
clients to purchase ALKEN® TREATMENT 53 instead, if they need a treatment
for steam contacting food. Update: 02-24-2007 |
