12. Ecological Information
Environmental Fate: Excess phosphate can upset the natural
ecological balance in streams and rivers, encouraging an overgrowth of algae
and dinoflagellates, such as Pfiesteria. It is therefore recommended
that this product not be discharged to waterways.
Environmental Toxicity: While this phosphate product is not a
direct poison, its ability to increase the eutrophication of ponds, lakes,
rivers, streams, etc. makes it very undesirable to spill a large volume of
product into a waterway. The Alken Clear-Flo® 1000 series products are
most suitable for application to waterways impacted by a spill of this product.
