CORROSION INHIBITOR FOR DRY STORAGE OF CIRCULATING WATER SYSTEMS

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN® LAYUP 405 is an emulsifiable liquid product designed to protect circulating water systems from corrosion while they are laid up in dry storage.

ALKEN® LAYUP 405 contains sulfonates which are attracted to metal surfaces, and form a mono-molecular film on them. The film persists after the system has been drained of water, and offers effective protection from corrosion for several months. The film is readily washed away when the system is refilled and started up with normal treatment chemicals, and it does not interfere with establishment of regular corrosion inhibition.

PROCEDURE:

ALKEN® LAYUP 405 should NOT be used in systems which are in operation. After the system has been removed from service, any bleed-off or blowdown should be closed, and normal chemical treatment discontinued. Add two gallons of ALKEN® LAYUP 405 to the system for each thousand gallons of water held in the system, and continue circulation of the treated water for twelve to twenty-four hours to allow formation of the protective film. After this film-forming period, the system can be drained for storage in the normal way.

No special procedures are needed when starting up an idle system that was treated with ALKEN® LAYUP 405. The system should be refilled with fresh water and the recommended startup dosage of regular treatment chemicals.

HANDLING:

ALKEN® LAYUP 405 contains petroleum hydrocarbons. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheet for information about worker, community, and environmental safety. Consult our Technical Department before using in a system where elastomer seals or valve seats are present.

PACKAGING:

ALKEN® LAYUP 405 is packaged in 5-gallon steel pails, 55-gallon steel drums, and 275 gallon totes.
