Material Safety Data Sheet

DRY INHIBITED SULFAMIC ACID CLEANER FOR ALL WATER SYSTEMS

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN® DRSD 886 is an effectively inhibited dry acid cleaner which is formulated to remove deposits in all types of non-potable water systems. ALKEN® DRSD 886 easily removes deposits of calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, copper compounds and/or iron oxides without attacking the underlying metal surfaces. The acid used in ALKEN® DRSD 886 converts these deposits into water-soluble salts. Iron oxide removal is hastened by the ability of the acid to form a stable soluble complex with the iron in the deposits. The organic inhibitor system used in ALKEN® DRSD 886 was recently improved by the addition of patented inhibition technology, electrolytically protecting metal surfaces from attack by the acid, while ensuring maximum efficiency descaling and rinsability.

DOSAGE DIRECTIONS:

The dosage of ALKEN® DRSD 886 needed to clean a system depends on the size of the system, the type of deposit present, and the total amount (or thickness) of the deposit. Generally, ALKEN® DRSD 886 is used in a one-pound-per-gallon concentration in cool water. Heavier deposits, or those containing high amounts of iron oxides, may require a higher dosage, or additional cleaning cycles. Specific recommendations will be made by our Technical Department based on survey information and chemical analysis of the deposit. An 11% solution was used to measure boiling point, freezing point, pH and general viscosity. If oil and grease deposits are also detected, pre-clean the system with ALKEN® CW 883 for optimum system performance.

HANDLING:

ALKEN ALKEN® DRSD 886 is an acid product and its solutions are strongly acidic. Do not take intermally. Avoid eye and skin contact. Should contact occur, immediately flush area with large amounts of water. Strict adherence to the safety procedures prescribed, especially those in the Material Safety Data Sheet, is necessary in order to handle and use this product safely.

VISCOSITY:

Viscosity was tested using a Cannon® Rotational Viscometer, model LV-2000, a low viscosity attachment, a Cannon® water jacket and #4 spindle with temperature controlled by a Haake® constant temperature water bath, model F3-K. A correction factor of 1.11 was applied after calibrating with Cannon® Viscosity Standards.
