AMMONIA CONTROL IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110 is a liquid suspension formulation comprising strains of bacteria capable of nitrifying ammonia nitrogen. Typically, injecting an inoculum of concentrated ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110 brings a system, deficient in nitrifying bacteria, up to required levels within 3-10 days while reducing total ammonia by 70-90%. This formula is also useful for oxidizing dimethyl ether and methyl fluoride. ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110 finds application in industrial treatment facilities associated with petroleum refineries, steel and coking works, meat processors and chemical manufacturers, all of which tend to generate high concentrations of ammonia in their wastewater. Domestic sewage treatment plants which lack a well established microbial population at start-up, or overwhelmed by a system upset, brought about by illegal dumping into sewage lines or by other causes, can also benefit from the use of ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  Appearance  Slightly turbid liquid suspension
 Odor  Slightly musty
  pH  7.5
Ammonia Oxidation Rate:  10 mg NH3/liter/hour*
 Ammonia Nitrogen  <10 ppm
 Nitrite Nitrogen  <10 ppm

ADVANTAGES:

  • Works rapidly.
  • Effective even at relatively high BOD (200 mg./l).
  • Effective over a wide temperature range (49 degrees F to 110 degrees F).
  • Effective over a wide pH range (6.5 to 8.5).
  • Non-toxic, non-corrosive, safe to handle and store.

DOSAGES:

See

Industrial/Municipal Dosage Chart for CF 7110.
The amount of ammonia present and the daily flow rate will determine the dose. Initially, higher dosages may also be required to establish a viable biomass. BOD must be 200 ppm or below for nitrifiers to perform with maximum efficiency.

If BOD/COD is above 200 ppm, a waste degrading product from the ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7000 product series should be used to reduce nutrient loadings BEFORE nitrifiers are added. Since nitrifiers consume 7.2 ppm of alkalinity for each ppm of ammonia oxidized to nitrate, we recommend that plants maintain at least 50 ppm of alkalinity, during treatment with ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110. Ask Alken-Murray Corporation for advise on which product will be most suitable for your plant.

FEEDING:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110 should be applied daily, either manually or by means of a chemical metering pump, until the ammonia problem is brought under control.

PACKAGING and HANDLING:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7110 is packaged in 55 gallon containers. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid inhalation of mists as well as contact with eyes, skin and open wounds. Wash hands with warm, soapy water after handling. A 10 lb. refrigerated-pack of the 50x concentrate of this formula is available, but must be kept refrigerated.
