 ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003

Material Safety Data Sheet

FOOD MANUFACTURING & SEWAGE WASTEWATER TREATMENT

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 is a concentrated dry blend of specially developed , non-pathogenic, Biosafety Level 1 strains of bacterial cultures (5 strains of endospore-forming Bacillus and 4 strains of gram-negative, vegetative species) for use in food manufacturing wastewater and sewage applications, where the naturally occurring microbial population is inadequate for effective and timely bioremediation. The microorganisms in ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 have the ability to degrade foods, especially those related to vegetables, their juices and oils, but they also target phenolics and detergents. ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 also controls odors from fatty acids, while effectively reducing biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and suspended solids (SS) in wastewater.

CHARACTERISTICS:

 Bacterial count:  5 billion CFU/gram (2.7 trillion CFU/Lb)
 Appearance:  Free flowing, brown powder
 Odor:  Yeast-like
 pH:  Neutral

FEATURES AND BENEFITS:

  • Tested and certified negative for Salmonella, Shigella & E.Coli
  • Utilizes aerobic, facultative and/or fermentative metabolic pathways, based on availability of dissolved oxygen, nitrate and nitrite in the system.
  • Utilizes the following sugar-syrups as "sole carbon source", each produced by various food processing wastewaters, delivering significantly reduced levels of COD, BOD and TSS: Glycerol, L-Arabinose, Ribose, D-Xylose, D-Glucose, D-Fructose, D-Mannose, D-Mannitol, D-Turanose, D-Raffinose, Sorbitol, alpha-Methyl-D-Glucoside, N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine, Amygdalin, Arbutin, Inositol, Esculin, Salicin, Cellobiose, D-Maltose, Lactose, Melibiose, Inositol, Saccharose (Sucrose), Trehalose, Amidon (Starch), Glycogen, D-Tagatose, Xylitol, Gluconate, 2-Keto-Gluconate, 5-Keto-Gluconate
  • Digests food-source FOG (Fats, Oils & Grease) hydrocarbons
  • This formula degrades anionic and nonionic surfactants, nonyl-phenols & other detergents.
  • Delivers fast odor control by digesting acetic, butyric, isobutyric, lactic and propionic fatty acids, which are released when the esterase and lipase enzymes split glycerol away from compound FOG.
  • Powerful Enzymes Produced: Protease, Amylase, Esterase, Esterase-Lipase, Lipase, Xylanase, Cellulase, Lignosulfonase, Acid Phosphatase, Alkaline Phosphatase, Alpha-Chymotrypsin & many other unusual enzymes
  • Encourages protozoa growth rates and increased diversity
  • Effective over a wide temperature (50 F to 120 F; 10 C to 49 C) and pH range (5.5 to 9.0)
    .

APPLICATION DIRECTIONS:

See

 Industrial/Municipal dosage charts
for general application rates. Your Alken-Murray service representative will prescribe both the initial application and the maintenance doses taking into consideration such factors as the total daily influent and effluent, BOD/COD loadings, suspended solids and levels of pesticides or other contaminants. Be aware that a heavy rainfall may bring significant contamination with its runoff, and a one-time dosage equal to the initial application may be needed to restore control. Mechanical aeration may be needed where natural aeration is deficient.

Although ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 may be measured out and applied directly, as dry, loose powder, we advise rehydration of each pound of ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 in two gallons of warm (21 to 22 C / 70 F) for optimum bacterial performance, mixing bran-based powder thoroughly with water every thirty minutes over two hours. Alternatively, use an overhead stirrer to continuously mix bran powder and water for two hours, then allow to settle for 15 minutes before decanting liquid into influent section of wastewater system. Thoroughly stir settled bran into fresh wastewater and dispense into system.

Avoid use of algaecides, herbicides, and antibiotics when using ALKEN CLEAR-FLO®. If chlorinated city water must be used to hydrate bacterial cultures, dechlorinate using either thiosulfate or Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Discuss the protocol with your authorized Alken-Murray distributor or Kenneth J. Edwards, Jr., Head Chemist at Alken-Murray's subsidiary, Fenton Farm, Inc. Research Laboratory in Huntly, Virginia.

PACKAGING AND HANDLING:

ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7003 is packaged in 25- and 50--pound containers. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, or open wounds and wash hands with warm, soapy water after handling.
