3. Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview: The microorganisms used in this product include one strain of Nitrosomonas europaea, and one strain of Nitrobacter winogradskyi, which are both BioSafety Class 1 microorganisms, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control as unlikely to cause disease in healthy humans or animals. However, persons with compromised immune systems should avoid contact with open wounds and/or breathing dust or mist from manufacturing processes.

The autotrophic nitrifier strains in this product are susceptible to the following commonly-available antibiotics: Cephalothin, Ceftriaxone, Streptomycin, Chloramphenicol, Erythromycin, Penicillin G., Kanamycin and Trimethoprim/Sulfoxazole.

Although the two bacterial cultures included in this product were grown in a sterile aqueous medium containing nutrients, identified in section 2 of this MSDS, the concentrations of each chemical remaining in the residual fermentation broth included when the cultures were added to the distilled water and glycerine ingredients that complete this formula are extremely low.

Potential Health Effects:

  • Signs and Symptoms of Acute Overexposure: Eye, skin irritation
  • Signs and Symptoms of Chronic overexposure: Dermatitis and skin sensitization
  • Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: Allergies, dermatitis.
  • Ingestion: No effect if ingested in small amounts. Relative to other materials, a single dose of this product is rarely toxic by ingestion. Irritation of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus and stomach can develop following ingestion.
