The effect on microbial balance: There was no great difference between the both ponds, when bacterial number was considered. Throughout the test, the bacteria grown on the 2216E and TCBS media was 1,000 cfu/ml and 100 cfu/ml, respectively. It was noted that the bacterial number in the treated pond had not changed greatly due to the bacterial addition. At least, it may be safe to say that the commercial probiotics added to pond would not disturb microbial balance. It is necessary that further investigation should be done to reveal the effect of the commercial probiotics on microbial balance in the future. Better understanding of the mechanism of action in tank and pond ecosystems may be lead to improve probiotics products in the future. |
The effect on growth of shrimp: In order to study the effect on growth and production of shrimp, the mean body length and weight of shrimp samples were measured at the end of the test. The significant difference was noticed in the average length and weight between both ponds. The average length of shrimp samples from the treated pond with the commercial probiotics was larger than that of the untreated (13.3cm and 12.7cm, respectively). Also, there was a striking difference in the mean body weight between the treated and untreated shrimp (23.1g and 20.6g, respectively). This data showed that the commercial bacterial supplement had a great effect on the shrimp growth. More studies need to be conducted with microbial probiotics to better understand their potential benefits to aquaculture production. |
