ALKEN NU-BIND 1 is a unique blend of a high-molecular-weight
natural extract of humified sphagnum soil and twenty-two strains of natural,
BioSafety Level 1, endospore-forming Bacillus, creating a product
which eliminates high concentrations of hydrogen sulfide and other noxious
odors (except mercaptans), eliminates foaming and improves sludge settling
in wastewater and natural aquatic environments. In limited applications,
ALKEN® NU-BIND 1demonstrated binding of copper, cadmium
and other heavy metals, reducing their toxicity to system microbial populations.
The included Bacillus deliver the following enzymes: casease, protease,
amylase, lipase, esterase, cellulase, ligninase, gelatinase, sulfide oxidase,
urease, ammonia monooxygenase, lecithinase, nitrate reductase, nitrite reductase,
catalase and oxidase. While discouraging growth of filamentous and gram-negative
bacteria, the humified soil extract acts as a biostimulant for the included
strains of Bacillus, most of which were originally isolated from
the same soil as the humified soil extracted product base. ALKEN®
NU-BIND 1 is biodegradable and harmless to humans, pets, livestock,
protozoa, fish, and wildlife, when used as directed. For additional information on the benefits of humic substances, see Properties of Humic Substances. |

The microbial component of ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 is activated by DILUTION with water. Thoroughly shake bottle or pail, before diluting, to stir the brown residue up from the bottom, ensuring that all of the spores are in solution. The shelf-life of diluted product is one 1 month. Hot water, bleach, disinfectants, and strongly alkaline detergents will deactivate ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 and should not be mixed with the product. To Eliminate Hydrogen Sulfide
Odors and Corrosion, in Waste Treatment Plants and Lagoons:
The resulting answer gives dosage in gallons, and should provide a decrease of 60 to 75% hydrogen sulfide concentration at the end of the first 24 hours of application. Day 2: Reduce dose to 60% of Day 1 application rate Day 3: Reduce dose to 40% of Day 1 application rate Maintenance: Continue reducing dosage by 10% a day until odor begins to return, then maintain slightly above that level. Experience has shown that rates as low as 2 ppm have been effective. For Lift Stations with H2S Odors: Apply 100 to 200 yards upline from the problem station. To Control Foaming from Nocardia & Other Filamentous Species: Spray full-strength, heavily directly onto the foam in the clarifiers until foam abates, with a dosage of approximately 10 ppm (up to 20 ppm for emergency treatment of severe foam). When applying ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 for this application, always order sufficient supply that you can apply as much treatment as is needed to eliminate foaming and bulking in final clarifiers IN A SINGLE DAY. If a heavy rainfall doubles plant influent volume, dosage of ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 must ALSO be doubled to ensure desired results. If treatment must be stopped before foam has been totally eliminated and settling achieved, repeat FULL treatment the second day. If less than a full 5 gallon pail of ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 remains on-hand at the end of a successful day of treatment, toss the remaining product into the final clarifier just before going home, to ensure that no shortage is possible. The second phase of treatment can begin simultaneously, with an application of Alken Clear-Flo® 7015, to the final lift station that precedes the wastewater treatment plant experiencing a filamentous foaming, bulking problem. If lift stations are NOT accessible to manual treatment, Alken Clear-Flo® 7015, can be applied to the primary aeration tank at the plant itself. See our industrial and municipal wastewater dosage charts (linked to the product bulletin) and read the "Foam Control" article linked to the top of THIS product bulletin, below the MSDS and Nu-Bind Analysis and above the Hydrogen Sulfide Tutorial link. You can also find the Foam Control Article linked to the Alken Clear-Flo® 7015, , product technical bulletin, below its MSDS link. To Settle Suspended Solids in a Recreational or Decorative Pond: Use 5 ppm, applied evenly around the pond, all in ONE DAY. For example: a 2 acre pond that averages 6 feet deep equals approximately 4 million gallons of water, and would use 4 x 5 gallon pails to settle suspended solids. To Settle TSS in Wastewater Lagoons; Use 10 ppm ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 , again evenly applied all in ONE DAY. There is no danger to animals, people, farmed fish, snails, protozoa or worms. Those who want to keep green water micro-algae in their ponds should not use any flocculants , including ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 because flocculants cause settling of all suspended matter, living or dead and that could potentially harm algae. For H2S AND Ammonia Odor Control at Turkey and Pig Barns: For each 1000 square feet of barn area, dilute 1 pint (16 oz.) of ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 in 2 gallons of unchlorinated water and apply with a backpack sprayer or agricultural sprayer, every 7 to 10 days. Keep product damp to maintain effectiveness. For H2S and Ammonia Odor Control in Chicken Barns: For each 1000 square feet of barn area, dilute 1/2 gallon of ALKEN® NU-BIND 1 in 5 gallons of unchlorinated water and apply with either an agricultural sprayer or a backpack sprayer, the night before chickens are introduced to the barn. Reapply twice a month, if necessary. Keep product damp to maintain effectiveness. |
