SWINE (PIGS, HOGS) AND POULTRY (CHICKENS)
MANURE DEGRADER FOR WASTE PIT & LAGOON TREATMENT

DESCRIPTION:

ALKEN ENZ-ODOR® 5 is a concentrated dry blend of nine (9) gram-positive Bacillus strains and seven (7) vegetative, gram-negative strains of natural, non-pathogenic bacteria and other ingredients designed to economically liquify, metabolize, deodorize, and balance the nutritive value of swine manure. ALKEN ENZ-ODOR® 5 is ideally suited for use in holding tanks, manure pits, drainage systems and lagoons. This product has been specially balanced for the C/N ratio of swine (hog, pig) and chicken (poultry) manure, to produce a more usable fertilizer which will be better utilized by plants, significantly reducing the runoff of excess nitrogen and phosphorous which pollute our rivers and streams. Improved since the NPPC trial with higher total count, lower dose, better control of odors from ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans and fatty acids (especially isovaleric acid). Denitrification is also enhanced in this formula.

CHARACTERISTICS:

 Bacteria count:  4.5 billion CFU/gram
Appearance:  Free flowing, grayish tan powder
 Odor:  Faintly sweet cereal-like

ADVANTAGES:

  • Degrades cellulose fibers, xylan, proteins, fats, and residual carbohydrates in swine wastes.
  • Retards odor generation by oxidizing malodorous compounds including mercaptans, disulfides and hydrogen sulfide.
  • Now degrades acetic, butyric, hexanoic, propionic, isovaleric and lactic fatty acids.
  • Balances fertilizer value of waste to reduce runoff from unused nutrients.
  • One strain produces a blue copper-binding protein, protecting the other strains when copper has been used.
  • Contains five strains that can denitrify whether or not oxygen is present in the system.
  • Effective over a wide temperature range (49 deg. to 140 deg. F or 9 deg. to 65 deg. C).
  • Effective over pH range (5.5 to 9.0).
  • Non-toxic, non-corrosive; completely safe to handle and store.

DOSAGES:

Use 1 gallon of warm water (approximately 110 deg. F) to hydrate each 1 lb. of dry product and stir vigorously before pouring into the waste pit. Do not filter this product. The undissolved solids are required in the treatment process.
Waste Pits: Apply 5 lbs* of ALKEN ENZ-ODOR® 5 plus 24 oz. of ALKEN® ENZ-ODOR 9 (or 100 ppm sodium nitrate) per week per 6000 gallons until improvement in odor and consistency is achieved (usually two weeks); thereafter for each 6000 gallons, apply monthly 2 lbs. of ENZ-ODOR® 5 plus 8 oz. of ALKEN® ENZ-ODOR 9.
Ammonia Control in Confinement Areas: If sprayable liquid is desired, blend ALKEN NU-BIND 2 & NU-BIND 3 for optimum ammonia odor control.

*Significantly larger waste pits require a proportionately lower dose than that listed. Conversely pits smaller than 3000 gallons may require up to double the dosage . Consult your Alken-Murray representative if your waste pit differs drastically from the data listed above.

Lagoons: For the first 4 weeks, apply 1 lb.* ALKEN ENZ-ODOR® 5 per day per million gallons per day of waste flow; thereafter, apply 2 lbs. per week. Pre-mix at the rate of 1 pound per 2 gallons of water and allow to stand approximately 2 hours, then stir thoroughly before applying half at the inlet from the barn and half in equal portions around the outside of the lagoon. Use of ALKEN® ENZ-ODOR 9 is optional for faster results and better control of H2S.

If a filterable, sprayable product is preferred, substitute ALKEN CLEAR-FLO® 7000.

PACKAGING and HANDLING:

ALKEN ENZ-ODOR® 5 is packaged in 25 and 50 lb fiber drums. One ounce samples are available FREE for laboratory testing. Store in a cool dry place. Avoid excessive inhalation and wash hands with, warm soapy water after handling.
