Tests Comparing Degrading Efficiency In the Presence of Detergent

Protein Digestion in the Presence of Detergent

A solution containing 1500 PPM casein (protein) and 1200 PPM of Tide* was put in two flasks. The control flask was inoculated with a competing septic tank culture. Alken Clear-Flo 4000 was added to the other flask

After two days of incubation, both flasks were tested for protein reduction. Alken Clear-Flo 4000 degraded 75% of the casein, despite the presence of Tide*, whereas no digestion was seen in the control flask.

Identical flasks containing 1200 PPM Tide* were set up. The control flask was inoculated with septic sludge and the other flask with Alken Clear-Flo 4000. The Alken Clear-Flo 4000 reduced the Tide* concentration by 58% after 4 days of incubation. The control showed no reduction.
