| A Few Price Increases - February
2001 We apologize for being forced to increase the prices for some microbial products and chemical formulas at the end of January 2001.We made our pricing decisions based upon careful consideration of increased costs for packaging supplies and some ingredients, especially the ingredients that must be maintained in stock to produce less popular formulas. This is our first price increase since 1996, and it is not a general increase, but product specific. Please note that we decreased some of the fuel treatment prices, after reformulating them. We were also able to decrease the pricing for some very popular microbial products, because that popularity allows us to prepare larger batches, which is more economical for us. We do not anticipate increases for polymers or fuel treatments, at this time. |
| New Charge for Plastic Pallets Certain countries require plastic pallets, which are very expensive. We can no longer provide them for free, but will pass along a lower fee than you could buy them for independently. We apologize that this has become necessary. |

Diesel Treatment for High Speed
Diesel Engines - Even-Flo 911 We have decided not to renew our EPA registration and sale of Alken Even-Flo 910S (which used to be the same formula) for US use in on-road trucks, since a new EPA rule would require us to substitute a manganese product that is priced at just under $1,000/gallon for the moderately priced ingredient used in EF 911 and Alken Fireside 981, therefore forcing us to raise the price to prohibitive levels. |
| New Treatment For High Speed Diesel
Engines - Even-Flo 912 We have a new version of EF 911 that emulsifies water and fuel, if this is desired. One advantage to this blend is a higher flashpoint, for easier handling. Contact us for pricing and additional information. We will post this to the web sometime in February. |
| Half-Pound Soluble Packets Offered
for Most Dry Alken Clear-Flo, Enz-Odor Products We have responded to requests for pricing for this service, and have added this item to our price list. The only size available is the ½ lb. packet in 25 lb. pail, since the weight of the larger sizes causes damage to the packets at the bottom. These have been added to the price list |
| CF 1100-50x Now Offered in Pints We have decided to offer a pint size of our 50x strength nitrifiers to satisfy small clients who are unable to order a 5 gallon pail of regular strength product in the winter, due to the risk of freezing. The 50x strength WILL tolerate freezing, but must be kept refrigerated, so it is shipped via overnight Federal Express with cold packs. One pint of 50x concentrated nitrifiers is the equivalent of 6 gallons of the regular strength product. |

- Improved Alken Clear-Flo 1400 has been improved with the addition of Active Aloe™ from AloeCorp. (provide link). Active Aloe™ is the most bioactive aloe vera and helps to soothe aquatic inhabitants during transport, while it protects their slime coat. This should insure higher survival rates and improved health of your precious aquatic life. |
| Winter Substitution for CF 1400 You can use our Alken Clear-Flo 1002 and the concentrate of our nitrifiers, CF 1100-50x, as a substitute for CF 1400, which will not survive freezing during winter shipments. Just use 1 teaspoon of CF 1002 for each 100 gallons of water in the shipping tank. Dilute one teaspoon (5 grams) of CF 1100-50x with 8.5 oz of distilled water and apply 1.25 oz of the diluted product for each 100 gallons of water in your fish/shrimp shipping tank. We have added the Active Aloe®, normally included in CF 1400, to the concentrated nitrifiers, at no charge, for those clients requiring this substitution for winter shipments. |

| Colony Forming Units per Pound (or
Gallon) Added to Microbial Indexes CFU/gal or CFU/lb have been added to the microbial product indexes so that you may more easily compare our products with competitors who choose to list their counts by the lb or by the gallon, which always sounds impressive until you realize they are generally doing this to disguise a low count. If they list their count by the ounce, just divide the number we list per lb by 16 (for dry products) to gain a fair comparison. If a liquid product is at issue, divide our CFU/gallon by 128 to have a fair comparison. I think you will find that our competitors rarely sell the high concentrations we offer. |

| More Revised QC Procedures Some of our foreign distributors had difficulty obtaining various pre-formulated test media (Difco and BBL are best), as specified in various of our quality control procedures, and requested recipes to prepare them, so we have complied by revising the QC procedures to include recipes from the FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual, 8th Edition/1995. Revised procedures are available for QC-7, 8, 26, 27, 29, 31, 32, 82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94 & 95. Valerie has personally tested each of these recipes this month and they do perform as well as the commercial formulas. We will e-mail a copy in response to requests. If you need a recipe for any other QC medium, even if not listed on our QC procedure, just ask and Valerie will try to find one for you. |

Treat-A-Loo 2 - New Formula We have created a revised formula for this product and the price is lower than the original product to entice clients to try it. Ask for a FREE sample. The new blend includes Active Aloe™, Yucca shidigera, and a proprietary oxygen catalyst for their biostimulant and odor-binding effect. The count for the new product is 92 million CFU/ml (363 billion CFU/gal). Dilute this formula 3:1 and resell for direct application to portable toilets or use 1/3 of the normal dosage of competing products. |

| Alken Nu-Bind Applied To Control Turkey Waste Odors Alken Nu-Bind has been recently successfully controlled both ammonia and hydrogen sulfide odors in a large turkey farm, when applied as a spray to the waste on the floor in the turkey barns. This reduces the frequency of air changes needed, so that the reduced electric bill, for heating the barn, helps to offset the cost of the product. |
| Alken Nu-Bind Applied to Tannery Waste Alken Nu-Bind was applied at a tannery to improve settling and reduce the requirements for polymers. Accumulation of bio-solids was reduced by 33-25% over the first two months of application, which translated into a reduction in hauling/disposal charges of $12,000 a month. |
| Room Temperature Stability Tests
of CF 7110-50x/CF 1100-50x Valerie personally conducted room temperature (15 - 20 deg C) stability tests of this manufacturing concentrate formula. The procedure used to verify performance was our QC-2, STP test. The results indicate that the concentrated nitrifiers WILL survive at least 4 days at room temperature, without ANY loss of quality. After that, quality is progressively lost the longer the product remains at room temperature. We STILL recommend keeping the product in the refrigerator, but you can place your order without worrying if customs delays delivery by one or two days. We are also investigating alternative cold packs that promise to retain their temperature for 14 days, to help assure quality through any unforseen delays. We will report on the ice packs next month after some trials supervised by Ken. |

We give you a recipe and sell you the bacteria needed for the formula, while you save money buying the other ingredients directly from their suppliers. |
