Alken Antifoam 880 - Technical Bulletin Now Posted Clients and distributors requested that we post this product to our website, so we have. This product is useful in cooling towers and as an adjunct to biological treatment in a wastewater facility.
Alken AFZ Boiler Antifoam Technical Bulletin Now Posted Since we posted the cooling tower-waste treatment antifoam, we decided to post the one for boiler water too.
Treatment Tip for Wastewater Foaming Sometimes it is advantageous to knock wastewater foaming with an initial dose of Alken Antifoam 880 , followed by treatment with *Alken Clear-Flo 7004, if the cause of foaming is chemical surfactants, or Alken Clear-Flo 7015*, to competitively exclude Nocardia spp., which can cause foaming in wastewater.

**Alken Clear-Flo**® **Technical Update**s
QC-96 Procedure for Calibrating Your Spectrophotometer Ken has labored intensively to prepare a new QC procedure to help you calibrate your spectrophotometer to read indicator dyes. Ken calibrates all of our equipment and gives us charts to use for each procedure, but this will allow you to calibrate your own instrument, without importing Ken. This procedure is especially useful with the STP test (QC-2) because it allows you to detect success sooner. Contact Ken for a copy of this procedure, at ken@alken-murray.com.
New Product - Alken Clear-Flo 1006 We have finally named our blend that successfully out-competes pathogenic Vibrio spp.. See the technical bulletin and MSDS, posted online, for more information.
Odor Control Choices Many of the products can handle multiple applications, but Valerie's opinion of the BEST choices are listed below. You may still wish to obtain a sample of the target waste and test two or three products to be sure of the best one for that application. Where a product is listed without a number, it designates the original blend (ie. Enz-Odor means *Enz-Odor, original.) Garbage cans and dumpsters: Nu-Bind 2* Municipal and Industrial lagoons: *Nu-Bind* and Enz-Odor 8 (aka *CF 7008) Animal Farming lagoons & waste pits (pigs, chickens, turkeys): Nu-Bind* & *CF 7000* Animal Farming Lagoons & Manure Piles (cattle & horses): *Nu-Bind* & *CF 8000* Zoos, Pets, Catteries: *Enz-Odor* Land Fills: *Enz-Odor 12* Lift Station Odors: *Enz-Odor 2* and, if grease buildup is heavy, also use *CF 4004* Wet Wells: *Enz-Odor* or *Nu-Bind 2* Skunk odor: *Enz-Odor* (mention skunks when you order and we will add a little extra scent for fast masking, until the bacteria can do their job eliminating the source of odor) Loading Docks: Depending on size and amount of water used to wash down the docks, *Enz-Odor* or *Enz-Odor 12* Wetlands: *Nu-Bind* (will also increase plant growth) Hydrogen Sulfide, when High Nitrate also needs to be removed: *Enz-Odor 6* Portable Toilets: *Treat-A-Loo 2* River or large lakes with severe odors: First apply *Nu-Bind,* followed by prescribed dry microbial blend. If ammonia is a problem, once oxygen levels are restored, add *CF 1100.* If oxygen cannot be restored and *Nu-Bind* does not handle the ammonia odors completely, add *Nu-Bind 3.*
Revised Product Bulletins for Manure Applications CF 7000 application instructions have been revised after independent testing of *Enz-Odor 5* revealed that certain extra ingredients added to that product, specifically a carbon source and the brand of powdered Yucca schidigera, failed to achieve their purpose. We also now recommend the improved liquid oxygenating biocatalyst, *Alken 896,* instead of the dry *Alken 895* (sodium nitrate). We will soon be revising Enz-Odor 5 to improve its performance. We now recommend *CF 7000* together with *Alken Nu-Bind* for swine and poultry applications and *CF 8000* with *Alken 896,* for cattle and horse applications, particularly where large amounts of bedding and other cellulosic material is added. See the revised technical bulletins posted online.
Dosage Information Turkey Farming Added to Alken Nu-Bind
So-called "Short-Cut" to Counting Bacteria is a Flop Using your spectrophotometer or tubidimeter to measure the turbidity of a liquid bacterial product as a so-called "short-cut" to determining bacterial concentration is a fatally flawed procedure. Dead bacteria leave the liquid equally as turbid as live bacteria. Other ingredients in the formula can make the solution so turbid (example *Nu-Bind* or *Treat-A-Loo) that you could not read bacterial turbidity at all. Surfactants and other ingredients can change the turbidity also, so despite it being a long procedure, requiring great care to obtain accuracy, we must only recommend our QC-1* plate counting method for obtaining live bacterial counts in our products
